The "Pop-In"

so last night the wife is working, the kids are getting ready for bed and i'm watching futurama.

doorbell rings.

now it's dark, snowing and i live on a back road, so it's very odd to have a visitor.

Do you have friends/family still in the organization waiting for a big "cleansing" to occur?

i have had some great conversations with friends and family lately who are still in the organization.. when i explain my feelings and beliefs, and discuss a number of the scandals surrouding the wt, they agree with me 100% - even expressing some things i didn't expect them to say as far as doctrine and teachings.

in other words, they can see the obvious problems and want them to change.

all of them little trust in the leadership, and have expressed disgust with several elders in the congregations they attend.

When I explain my feelings and beliefs, and discuss a number of the scandals surrouding the WT, they agree with me 100% - even expressing some things I didn't expect them to say as far as doctrine and teachings. In other words, they can see the obvious problems and want them to change. All of them little trust in the leadership, and have expressed disgust with several elders in the congregations they attend. I use those occasions to "informal witness" to them. ALL of them were familar with the Candace Conti case, which I found interesting. (and a positive sign)

However, they all have mentioned that they stay in and are "waiting on Jehovah" to cleanse the organization. My position with them is that I will wait for the cleansing to take place before I ever decide to consider returning. (I dont think I have too much to worry about!!)

Have you experienced this with friends and family? They see the issues, are troubled by many of the problems, but still think God is using the WT. Therefore, they believe a time is coming when the "wheat and weeds" wil be separated and the organization will be cleaned......

I am thinking about a way to approach this subject reasonably.......these are really kind people who love God, but can't separate him from the WT at this point, unfortunately.

Fascinating 1914 exchange between CT Russell and a colporteur

i'm just doing some research for my book, and i uncovered a real gem from the watch tower of july 1st 1914 - published three months before the "gentile times" were due to end climaxing (as they thought back then) in armageddon.. a rather brave "colporteur" (pioneer) wrote in to the magazine asking whether the studies in the scriptures series of books advocating 1914 to be the end of the world should cease to be circulated after october.

not only does the question itself prove that the expectations of publishers back then were entirely contrary to what the society repeatedly implies them to be, but the answer given by russell shows the same arrogance and evasiveness that we see in modern literature from the society, showing how little has changed since those days.. here is the clipping.... .

notice how russell falls back on the same line of argumentation used by the society, namely "we have not attempted to say these views are infallible.".

Like 00DAD, I also started eliminating things I could no longer teach in good conscience....

I started taking more liberties with talk outlines, and just spoke about Christian principles and things i thought might actually encourage people.

The funniest for me was once I resigned as an Elder, I planned on resigning from the Theocratic Ministry School.

Well, before I could let the overseer know, he gave me a 5 minute talk on religious hypocrisy. I decided to give it.....

I gave a 5-minute fire and brimstone talk that really exposed a couple of elders in the hall (it was obvious it was about them, since they terrorized the hall).........quoted a couple of anti-religion heavy metal songs, and walked off the stage. That was my last talk at the hall.

Following the convention, at a meeting at the Brooklyn headquarters, Russell announced: "The Gentile Times have ended; their kings have had their day," and added that, "At 10:30 Sunday morning Brother Macmillan will give us an address." Those present laughed about Macmillan's previous announcement of his "last public address"; in the subsequent talk, Macmillan acknowledged, "some of us had been a bit too hasty in thinking that we were going to heaven right away". Despite his expectations for October 1914, Macmillan remained committed to the Watch Tower Society.

In 1919, the New York Times characterized Macmillan's address to a meeting of Bible Students as proposing a "new date for the Millennium" in the year 1925.

Martial Arts?

i have always had a love for martial arts (didn't know how to fight, just admire what the human body can do), but since jdub-land banned it, i just kinda forgot about it.

i admire nate quarry (an 'apostate' mma fighter) and i have been boxing for a year now.

i decided to switch over to muay thai.
